HIGH SCHOOL COACHES' INFORMATION

 

Jonathan E. Mitchell

Coach Mitchell is a 1989 graduate of Harrisonburg High School (VA), where he was a captain of the varsity football and wrestling teams. Coach Mitchell was an All-Valley District offensive lineman, a three-time Valley District wrestling champion, a two-time Region 2 wrestling champion, a three-time VA state qualifier, and a two-time VA state medalist (6 th and 3 rd ). He also served as the President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the HHS huddle and was active in both the National Honor Society and Young Life.

Coach Mitchell received his B.S. in Elementary Education from Messiah College in December of 1993. While at Messiah, he led the wrestling team in wins each of his four seasons. He served as the team's captain in his last two seasons, being named the team's Most Valuable Wrestler each of those years. Coach Mitchell was a four-time Middle Atlantic Conference place winner (6 th , 4 th , 2 nd , and 2 nd ) and a 1993 NCAA Div. III National Qualifier. After college, he competed in the National Freestyle Tournament from 1996 to 2000. Following the 2000 Nationals, Coach Mitchell retired from competition to focus on his professional responsibilities.

Coach Mitchell began coaching at McCaskey as an assistant to long-time coach Harvey Sitler in the 1993-1994 season. In the fall of 1994 he began working as an elementary teacher at Fulton Elementary, later moving to Lafayette Elementary. While working for the School District of Lancaster , Coach Mitchell has attained his M.Ed. in Sport Management from Millersville University and his PA Principal Certification through Penn State . He is currently in his 15 th season at the helm of the J.P. McCaskey wrestling program and continues to serve Lafayette Elementary as the Dean of Students. Coach Mitchell proudly resides in the city of Lancaster .

Isaias Rodriguez

 

Isaias graduated from McCaskey in 1998. He wrestled for the Red Tornados for three seasons. Later, he wrestled for Millersville University for 5 consecutive seasons. Isaias graduated from Millersville with a bachelor's degree in elementary education in May of 2007. Isaias is now working in the School District of Lancaster as a fourth grade teacher at Martin Luther King Elementary. He is also finishing his third season as the assistant wrestling coach for the varsity program.

 

Troy Richardson

 

Troy is a 1985 graduate from Henderson High School in West Chester, PA. He was a four year athlete in Football and Track & Field. Troy returned to Wrestling in his senior year after taking time off to pursue Indoor Track. Troy was an offensive lineman & nose-tackle, then added position of linebacker his senior year. He also played all special teams. Troy led the team in solo tackles as a "wedge-breaker" for the kick team. Troy also did four years of Track & Field, competing in Javelin, Discus, Long & Triple Jumps, and the 100m dash. He made lead-off sprinter for the All-League (2 nd team) 4x100 relay in 12 th grade, where they placed 2 nd at Ursinus College. Troy began wrestling in the third grade and continued through eighth grade, where he then returned to the mat to wrestle his Senior year at the 185 weight class.

After high school, Troy pursued endeavors to coach high school sports, where he volunteered in all three sports. Troy helped coach Football under his mentors Joe Walsh and George Venziale, Wrestling under Mike Lorbach, and Track under Ron Lott. After three years of volunteering, Troy went into all paid positions with West Chester Area School District, coaching middle school sports from 1990-1997, where he even continued there for three years after already moving to Lancaster in 1993. Troy also worked as assistant director to the music-drama department at Henderson High for 11 seasons under Director Robert Stuart. He also assisted with Black Student Affairs under Advisor Alice Thomas.

Troy started coaching in Lancaster 1994-96 for Wheatland Middle School Football, then at Lincoln Middle in 1997-98, and now currently the Football program at McCaskey since 1999 under Scott Feldman. Troy was re-introduced to Wrestling after meeting Head Coach Mitchell in 1997, later joining the staff in 1998. Troy then coached at McCaskey East with coaches Doug Feister 1998-2004, then Will Bentacourt from 2004-06, and has been with the senior high from the winter of 2006 to the present day. Troy attended Cheyney University from 1987-88 under a music scholarship, while also working full-time and coaching sports.

After a long endeavor in the workforce, Troy continued his education in part-time studies at HACC Lancaster Campus and has thus far earned two AA degrees in both Elementary Education and Social Sciences. Troy also worked in Student Government while at HACC and served as Student Body President last school year. He also received HACC awards for Goodwill Ambassador ('05), Campus Service ('07), and an award from the YMCA Camp Curtain of Harrisburg's - Black Achiever's Award ('05). He currently assists with events for Student Life & Multicultural Affairs at HACC Lancaster. Troy works full-time for Keystone Human Services of Lancaster as a Support Specialist, and also coaches Track & Field for Columbia High School.

Troy is currently pursuing his Bachelor's Degree at Millersville University, and plans to teach in the School District of Lancaster. Troy lives in the Township of Lancaster.
